April 2019 Recap

This month (+June, July, and August) is going to be a whirlwind as I attempt to balance family and writing.

I started the second draft of Gray Haze this month and have written a total of 28,421 words. I am in the middle of Chapter 9 in Part 1, where 22 chapters are planned in my outline. I am optimistic that this will be the last draft I’ll have to write from scratch.

I don’t know how long each part is going to be (most likely as long or longer than Part 1), and since I’ve planned to write seven parts (and I’m not even halfway done with Part 1 at almost 30,000 words), I may have underestimated the total word count this draft will amount to. Feel free to shoot me in the face.

[ICYMI] Posts from April:
April 3rd: March Recap
April 10th: Excerpt from Burning Space w/ Author Commentary + Gray Haze update
April 17th: Dedication to My Parents
April 24th: Writing the Ending of Your Novel + Gray Haze update

I read three books this month and am in the middle of a fourth: Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne (which I would rate about 2.5 stars), A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (which I would rate 2 stars), Myths and Mortals by Charlie N. Holmberg (which I would rate 3.5 stars), and The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie (which I will finish very soon). [Follow me on Goodreads!] Compared to March, this was a bad reading month for me. I just need to choose better books. At 40% of the way through, I would rate The Blade Itself 5 stars, so I’m off to a good start in May, thankfully. 🙂

This month (+June, July, and August) is going to be a whirlwind as I attempt to balance family and writing. I really hope I’ll be able to continue writing about 1,000 words/day (30,000 words/month) so that maybe I can finish the second draft of my wip by the end of the year. Then I can spend the first half of next year editing and the last half preparing to publish. 😬 But, ya know, I can’t plan for everything, and I want to get this story right. If it takes a little extra time to write something of acceptable quality, so be it.

What about you? What did you read/write in April? What are your goals for this month? Let me know in the comments!
