February was tough, I’ll admit. I’m glad I got through it. Looking forward to starting a new month with even more goal modifications and *hopefully* renewed motivation to finish my manuscript.
[ICYMI] Posts from February:
February 1st: January Recap
February 6th: Things I HATE in Romance
February 13th: Favorite Romance Tropes + Gray Haze word count + Chapters 15 & 16 Read Test
February 14th: Top 5 Kandi & Juan Moments in The Edinön Trilogy
February 20th: How to Write Male Characters (feat. a special male guest!)
February 27th: Writing the Middle of Your Novel + Gray Haze word count + Chapters 17 & 18 Read Test
On the writing front, I did pretty well. I wrote a total of 32,044 words (106 pages/5 chapters). I think I’m averaging between 7,000-10,000 words a week, which I find miraculous since I am normally so slow. If I keep up this pace (5 chapters a month, let’s say), then I’ll definitely be finished with the first draft of Gray Haze by the end of May.
My current obstacle is dwindling confidence that my writing is any good, especially these past couple of weeks, and I have spent hours just staring at my screen with this anvil in my gut and no words coming to mind. I love my story and my characters, and I still feel inspired, but I am dying to just start over and do it right this time rather than finish a draft that will end up trashed anyway. I know that I need to finish the first draft so that I can clearly see the problems with the entire manuscript, and not just the first half, so I’m not going to give up.
I cut out two scenes in Chapter 34 because I have no motivation or desire to write them, so I’m using the last scene (which I am writing right now) to summarize what I would have shown in the two middle scenes. Chapter 35 will only be two scenes as well, so I should get these next two chapters done in the time it takes me to finish one. “Should” being the operative word…
I read three books this month: Smoke & Summons by Charlie N. Holmberg, which I loved, Geekerella by Ashley Poston, which was okay, and 180 Seconds by Jessica Park, which I did not like as much (although it literally made me bawl my eyes out for an hour, dear goodness). I started another book today called The Never Hero by T. Ellery Hodges, which took me a while to get into, but now that I’m 40% of the way, I’m enjoying it. 🙂
I’m struggling with my health, but I’m going to set some new goals for March to improve it. I’m switching up my exercise routine starting today, and I’m going completely off sugar for a while to see if I start losing weight again. I’ll let you know how it goes in my next life update.
I set a goal to reach 1,000 newsletter subscribers by the end of the year. If you want to read Liquid Death, my first sci-fi/fantasy novel, for free, all you have to do is enter your email here, and you’ll automatically receive the download link. 🙂
We still have snow on the ground where I live, and I am dying to see the sun and flowers again! I haven’t seen grass since October. 😦
What are you reading this month? Have you made any progress with your wip? Are you still keeping up with your new year’s resolutions? Let me know in the comments!
Have a good month, everyone. 💚
